Be kind...

...for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

I read this on The Wild and Wily Ways of Brunette Bombshell a little while ago and it really struck me.

How many times do we run around never giving people the benefit of the doubt. We always assume the worst.

Why can't we look at a person who just cut us off, who was unpleasant at the checkout or who made a rude comment and say "They must be having a hard day." Instead we make judgements and harbor bad feelings.

Husband lives by a wonderful philosophy [this is only part of it] but he always tells me to "assume the best in everything." I honestly think that if we assumed the best in every circumstance and recognized more often than not that everyone around us is fighting a hard battle, just as we are, there would be so much more kindness in the world.

How much easier is it to treat someone kindly when you think of the hard things they may be struggling with that you don't even know about?

Softens your heart a bit doesn't it?

I hope that I can treat people as though I know personally the hard battle they are fighting.

Just a little bit of guilt on my end.

Just a bit.

Especially since I got annoyed by the five people going 20 mph in front of me all the way home from work yesterday.

I guess that means I should sit down and think about this one.
